Step by Step instructions on how to create a Personalized Heart Topiary Wedding Centerpiece that can also be used to highlight table numbers or names for a reception or to highlight your favorite verse or poem.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Terra cotta pot
  • Floral foam or Styrofoam
  • Sticks from your garden
  • Photograph
  • Scrap cardboard
  • 2- Floral Hearts
  • Pearl Beads
  • Paper clips
  • Tulle ribbon
  • glue gun, spray adhesiver, wire cutters, wire
  1. Step 1

Take a piece of scrap cardboard that you have around the house and spray it with a spray adhesive or you can use watered down white glue with brush. Apply the glue to the cardboard and then the photo, smooth it out flat to remove any air bubbles that might have occurred. Apply the same photo or different piece to the other side and set aside until ready for assembly.

  2. Step 2

The next step is to prepare the hearts so that we can insert the photo. First you need to remove some of the flowers from the inside of the hearts so that the photo will be visible . Gently go around the heart and remove the roses that are blocking the view. If the roses do not come out easily take your wire cutters and clip them off at the base of the flower. Repeat this step on both hearts.

  3. Step 3

Take the photo that was applied to the cardboard and "sandwich" in between the 2 hearts. Use some "cool" melt glue to glue all 3 pieces together. Then use the roses that were removed in step 2 to fill in the gaps. Set aside until ready to attach to the base.

  4. Step 4

For the base of our centerpiece use natural twigs or sticks from your garden. Start with a center stick that should be fairly straight. And from there work your way around the pot with other sticks until you get the desired shape you want clipping the sticks off as you go so that you end up with them all at the same height at the top. Wire all the sticks together and attach the heart to the top of the sticks.

  5. Step 5

Use tulle to cover the foam. Work the tulle around the pot until all the gaps and the top of the foam are covered.

  6. Step 6

The secure the tulle and add a decorative touch you're going to take a paperclip...unfold it and cut it in half in your wire cutters. One piece will be larger than the other but not to worry the size does not matter for this project. Then take the paperclip pieces and string a bead onto each piece. Finally, insert this combination (paperclip and bead) though the tulle into the foam to secure the tulle in place and add an extra decorative touch to the centerpiece.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use real moss, florist moss..paper shred, etc. to cover the base instead of tulle.
  • You can also use a dowel rod instead of the natural sticks.
  • Instead of using a photo you could also use table numbers or your favorite verse or poem.
  • Be careful when using hot glue. A cool melt glue is always recommended
