Step 1
Depending on the person's age, I usually ALWAYS start with MySpace or Facebook. If they are a generally young person, the chances are quite good that they will be on one of these sites.
Search for the person's name. If you only know the first name that's okay.
Add the location if you know that, or even just the state will narrow it down.
Also if you roughly know the person's age, include that in your search criteria. -
Step 2
Search engines are your friend. I use Yahoo! a lot. Say I'm searching for John Doe. I will type in "John Doe" (in quotations) and hit search. If I know John Doe's specific location I might type in "John Doe" Denver, with the location OUTSIDE of the quotation marks.
If you don't know a location, any other bit of information you know about the person will work, such as place of employment, school, awards, etc. -
Step 3
WhitePages.com is a good source for finding addresses and phone numbers for people, however if they are quite young, or don't live on their own you won't find anything on them, and that can be frustrating.

Step 4
If you know the person's email address put it in quotations and then search for that on Yahoo! or Google. For example, type in: "JohnDoe81@yahoo.com" Any site that he has posted that email address on should come up.

Step 5
If the person uses a certain screen name for more than one website, chances are that they will use that for most of the sites they sign up for. If John Doe uses JohnDoe81 as his handle, try searching for "JohnDoe81" on Yahoo! or Google.

Step 6
www.spock.com is a good source to find people as well. You can type in their name, email address, location, or keyword to find them!
