Things You'll Need:
- Cute haircut
- Highlights
- Protein based hair styling products
- Blow dryer with diffuser and cold air option
- Round boar-bristle brush
-
Step 1
Get the right haircut for thick hair
Have layers cut into your hair to add volume and bounce. A shorter, layered haircut gives the appearance of thick hair. If your hair is straight, a lightly layered modern bob cut will make hair appear fuller. Naturally curly hair will look thicker with layers cut in underneath. Ask your stylist to use scissors when cutting your curly hair, razors have been known to create frizz in curly hair. -
Step 2
Add the right color for thick hair
Have highlights strategically added to your hair to give the appearance of volume and texture. The color contrast that highlights provide will give the illusion of depth and fullness. Additionally, color thickens hair in another way. Permanent hair coloring agents push open your hair shafts to deposit the new color, which boosts volume in each individual hair strand. -
Step 3
Use the right products for thick hair
Use volumizing shampoos and conditioners with protein-based ingredients. Rice, wheat, soy and silk proteins thicken hair strands. The proteins in volumizing products attach to your individual hair strands to build up body and fullness. To further the illusion of thicker hair, lift the hair from your scalp by adding a root lifter to the roots of your hair. Spray a volumizing or thickening product through your damp hair before it's fully dry. -
Step 4
Try different blow drying techniques for thick hair
Once you have added root lifter and a volumizing or thickening spray to your hair, it's time to blow dry. Experiment with a diffuser attachment with prongs to lift your hair and blow in fullness. Bend over and begin to dry your hair upside down while using the prongs on the diffuser to lift your hair at the roots.
When hair is still damp, stand up and finish the drying process by blowing small sections of hair at a time. Begin at the front of your head and pull each section up with your round brush, your dryer should follow your brush. When you reach the ends, curl the hair around the brush and roll it back towards your head. Unwind and repeat with the next section of hair, moving from the front to the back of your head. When your hair is completely dry, set the style with a blast of cold air.
Now put on your smile. This is going to be a good hair day.
