You will learn the best way to freeze ground meat, so that when it comes to defrosting in a microwave it will turn out perfectly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ground Meat
  • Freezer Bag
  • Rolling Pin
  • Long Knife
  1. Step 1

Split ground meat into 1 pound sizes and place into 1 quart freezer bag.

  2. Step 2

Close the bag until almost empty, leaving about an inch open on the end, so that air can escape.

  3. Step 3

With your rolling pin, flatten the meat so that it fills the bag in all directions completely and there are no air pockets left. Be careful not to let the meat squeeze out the opening.

  4. Step 4

Seal the bag and take the long knife, dull side down, and press firmly down the center of the bag, all the way across.

  5. Step 5

Flip the bag over and perform the last step so that the lines match up and carefully place in the freezer.

  6. Step 6

When ready to defrost, you can run warm water over it so that the bag will release easier. In some cases you may need to cut the bag completely off.

  7. Step 7

Place the meat on a plate in the microwave and set to the appropriate defrost time for a 1/2 pound of meat and start.

  8. Step 8

Once done, break the meat blocks in half, flip over and seperate from each other by at least an inch. Set for another 1/2 pound of meat and finish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of using a plate for defrosting, a flat microwavable bacon tray can have better results, because the fluids will run away.
  • Every microwave is different, so you may need to tweak your settings.
