Treadmills are an excellent piece of fitness equipment. When used properly you can build stamina and get a good workout. However, treadmills can be dangerous, especially for children. Please follow these tips to stay safe when using treadmills.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Treadmill
  • Good walking shoes
  1. Step 1

The first step in treadmill safety is purchasing a high quality treadmill. While affordability is important you must keep in mind that when purchasing fitness equipment you do get what you pay for. When looking at treadmills make sure you keep safety in mind by picking a stable, sturdy, well made treadmill.

  2. Step 2

When using treadmills you need to make sure you keep the speed set at a pace you can keep up with. Setting the speed to high can cause you to loose your footing and fall.

  3. Step 3

Always wear good walking shoes when using treadmills. Do not walk on a treadmill bare footed or just wearing socks.

  4. Step 4

Never allow children to play on treadmills. Explain that it is a piece of fitness equipment and not a toy. Children can be seriously injured by treadmills.

  5. Step 5

If you are using a treadmill and feel light headed, nauseas, or dizzy get off the treadmill and take a break.
