understand your Keyword Search Results

Once you have used the Google Adwords keyword search to find some great keywords, it’s time to check out the competition. You will need to check out the keyword search results, to make sure that your topic doesn’t already have a million articles written on the same subject.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Pull up Google and enter your ‘best’ keyword phrase into the search box, using quotations. For example, if you intend to write an article on the best brand of cell phone, and the keyword phrase with the most potential is “best cell phone brand”, you would enter, “best cell phone brand” in the search box to get your keyword search results. (DO NOT just enter cell phone brand, you need to put the quotes in there!)

  2. Step 2

Check to see if there are too many results. The number of pages returned will show in the upper right area of the Google page, where it says, “Results 1-10 of XYZ number for “your search phrase here”. If the Keyword search results are 1-10 of about 5,000 or less, then you are good to go. If the keyword search results say that there are tons of other pages, it’s a good idea to keep on looking.

  3. Step 3

Continue to run searches on your best search terms until you hit on the perfect one. The perfect search term will offer a good CPC (cost per click) value, has a lot of people searching for it, (you can find this information out by using Google Adwords keyword search) and not a whole lot of pages showing up in the keyword search results.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be patient. Sometimes it takes a while to get the perfect match, but don't give up! You will find a phrase that gets good keyword search results!
