As we age, we have to exercise our mind just as we do our body to keep getting the maximum return from it. Keeping your brain active may prevent certain diseases such as Alzheimer's as well. You will be suprised how easy it is to keep your brain busy.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

One of the easiest ways to exercise your brain is by reading. Any type of learning stimulates the brain and increases brain activity. This can also include working crossword or suduko puzzles.

  2. Step 2

Exercise your body. This is important in keeping the proper blood flow to the brain. Oxygen rich blood stimulates thinking.

  3. Step 3

Find a group of friends to gather with and play games. Maybe you can meet at the local bingo or bridge club. Interaction with others help promote healthy brain function.

  4. Step 4

Challenge the brain with simple exercises like brushing your teeth with the opposite hand you usually use, or maybe just walk backwards.

  5. Step 5

Reduce your stress levels. Stress hormones in the blood can damage healthy brain cells.

  6. Step 6

Get plenty of sleep every night. As we age, we tend to sleep less. This is not good for our mind or body. Try to take in at least eight hours of sound sleep per night.

Tips & Warnings
  • Continue exercise.
  • Contact your physician before starting any exercise regimen.

on 6/26/2009 like the toothbrush idea, that actually does make sense when you are challenging you brain to do something it is not used to. Kinda like pat your head and rub your belly and vise versa.
