June is National Rose Month. Roses are beautiful, symbolic, and easier to grow and longer lasting in a bouquet than most people realize. Celebrate this month by giving a rose, or roses, to someone to say "I love you", "Thank you" , "I appreciate you", You're special, or "I'm thinking of you".

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Almost everyone likes to be the recipient of a single rose, a vase of roses or a rose bush simply because of the romantic connotations associate with this beautiful flower. Fresh cut roses will stay fresher longer if you use a preservative such as the packet provided in floral bouquets or make your own preservative.

  2. Step 2

The color of a rose has unique symbolism. There are numerous sources for locating the meaning of each color of roses. A generalization of colors and their meaning is as follows: Red symbolizes love and romance, white symbolizes innocence, yellow is for friendship, pink is for gratitude and appreciation, orange is for enthusiasm, and purple is for enchantment.

  3. Step 3

If you prefer to give someone a longer lasting gift during National Rose Month, you can give them a rose bush. There are many more options available today than there used to be. The standard size rose bush in an almost endless variety of color is one option. Or, you may choose to give someone a climbing rose if that is appropriate for their planting location.

  4. Step 4

If you want to give a rose bush to someone who has little or no yard space for planting a rose bush, you can give them a hybrid tea rose or a miniature rose bush that they can grow in a container on a patio or deck. Miniature roses also do well indoors if they are placed in an area where they receive approximately 6 hours of sunlight.

  5. Step 5

To celebrate National Rose Month, give a rose to numerous people, not just to the love of your life. Take a rose to an elderly person who could use a little beauty to brighten their world. Give a rose to someone that has made a difference in your life or who makes a difference in your day with their upbeat personality or caring attitude. Surprise a person who works in a care-giving field with an appreciation rose. Plant a rose bush in your yard or in a container on your deck. Buy yourself a bouquet of roses. You deserve them.

  6. Step 6

How much you spend on roses depends on your personal budget and possibly on how many people you wish to surprise with a rose. Florists offer beautiful bouquets of roses for you to give the special person in your life. Single stems of roses are available from florists, at fresh markets, or at the floral section of a grocery store or department store.
