Mozilla Firefox is a free, open source web browser that runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. One of the most popular features of Firefox is the option to install extensions or add-ons that enhance functionality. Another interesting feature is the built-in option to save Flash movies, games and animations to your hard drive.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Update Firefox to the latest version. Go to "Edit," "Preferences," "Advanced," and then "Update." Make sure "Firefox" and "Installed Ad-ons" are checked in the "Automatically check for updates to" section. Click "Close" to save the settings.

  2. Step 2

Restart Firefox, then go to the website that contains the Flash file you would like to save. Right-click on the Web page, then select "View Page Info." As an alternative, click on "Tools" and then "Page Info" in the toolbar.

  3. Step 3

Click on the "Media" tab to see a complete list of available Flash files. The currently selected file will be previewed in the lower part of the window. Scroll down to the Flash (.swf) file you want to save, then select it.

  4. Step 4

Click the "Save As" button, then browse to the location on your hard drive where you want Firefox to save the file. Click "Save" to close the dialog box. Repeat the process to save additional Flash files.

  5. Step 5

Locate one of the Flash files you just saved, then right-click on it. Select "Open with" then select "Firefox." Click "OK" to play the file.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also install and use a Firefox add-on like FlashGot (see resources) to download Flash and other types of files to your hard drive.
  • If you don't have the proper Adobe Flash codecs and plugins installed on your system (see resources), you will not be able to play a Flash movie or animation.
