How to Make Mexican Shortbread Cookies

Things You'll Need
- Butter
- Sifted powdered sugar
- Vanilla
- All-purpose flour
- Ground toasted almonds
- Ground cinnamon or finely shredded orange peel

Beat 1 cup of butter in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for approximately 30 seconds. Add 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and beat until fluffy. Add 1 tbsp. water and 1 tsp. vanilla and beat until well mixed. Stir 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup ground toasted almonds and 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon or 2 tsp. finely shredded orange peel. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Shape the dough into 1-inch balls by hand. Place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, about 1 inch apart.

Bake in the oven at 325 degrees F for approximately 20 minutes, or until the bottoms of the cookies are lightly browned.

Remove the cookies from the oven and cool on a wire rack. Gently shake powdered sugar over the tops of them or shake them gently in a plastic bag with powdered sugar.
