How to Make Cat Collars
One of the best things you can do for your cat is to give her a collar. This will make it easier for someone to help her get back home if she happens to get lost. Making your own rather than purchasing one is a creative and practical solution. Making your own cat collar also allows you to customize and personalize it as you wish. Once you know the process, you'll be able to use any type of material you desire for your cat's new collar.
Things You'll Need
- 1/2-inch leather trim
- Ice pick
- Small metal buckle
- Charms or rhinestones (optional)
- Needle
- Thread

1
Wrap the leather trim around your cat's neck and cut it to a length where you can still fit your pinky finger between the trim and your cat's neck, plus 1 inch.
-
2
Lay the trim flat and measure in about 1 inch from the left side. Poke a hole through with the ice pick. Poke 2 or more holes about 1/2 centimeter apart so that you can tighten and loosen the strap as desired.

3
Slip the buckle over the right side. Fold the end of the right side over the buckle so that it forms a loop and sew the end down. If you want to make your collar fancier, you can sew or glue charms or rhinestones as you desire.

Tips & Warnings
Since leather is thicker than most materials, use a thimble when pushing the needle through to avoid injury. If you live in a hot climate, pay close attention to your cat in the summertime, as leather collars can be warmer than others.
