Instructions

    • 1

Use a spot cleaner for smaller areas. A laundry spot cleaner is the easiest method to use in the case of smaller stains. Shout makes a spot cleaner spray that you can apply to the area and then wipe away with a damp cloth.

    • 2

Take the featherbed to a local laundry mat. Unless you have a commercial-sized washing machine and dryer, you need to use a large-capacity machine that can handle the size of the featherbed.

    • 3

Set the washer to the cold water setting. Only use the recommended amount of detergent to clean the featherbed.

    • 4

Place the featherbed in a dryer at the gentlest heat setting. Before laundering, purchase dryer balls to place inside with the featherbed. These balls will help prevent the down feathers from losing their fluffiness. As an extra precaution, stop the dryer a few times during the cycle to shake out and fluff the featherbed.

Hang the featherbed on a clothesline to finish drying. Since the feathers will take a long time to dry, it is best to allow the feathers to sit in the sun for several hours before placing the featherbed back on your bed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read the directions on the tag of the featherbed. If it instructs that the material must be dry cleaned, take the featherbed to a dry cleaner.
