How to Use Denture Adhesive
Denture wearers undertake the daily task of securing dentures in place with adhesives to protect against loss or uncomfortable slippage. Poorly adhered dentures can cause a host of oral health issues including increased debris, lowered bite force and problems chewing. Thankfully, denture wearers can secure their dentures with a few easy steps, whether with powder or paste adhesives.

- Denture adhesive paste
- Denture adhesive powder
- Water
- Effervescent denture cleanser
- White vinegar-based denture soak
- Microfiber cloth
- Toothbrush

Use Denture Adhesive Pastes

Clean your dentures. Use an effervescent denture cleaner or white vinegar soak. Brush away plaque buildup with a toothbrush. Rinse the dentures and dry them thoroughly with a microfiber cloth.

Squeeze paste onto the top denture piece. Apply adhesive to the top teeth in three short lines along the gum. Squeeze a single, extended line across the upper plate.

Apply paste to the lower denture piece. Squeeze three short lines into the gum ridges.

Rinse your mouth out thoroughly with water.

Press the denture pieces into place, closing your bite firmly for 3-4 seconds.
Use Denture Adhesive Powders

Clean and dry the dentures before adhering them. Clean the dentures with an effervescent or soaking denture cleanser and a toothbrush. Pat dentures dry with the microfiber cloth.

Shake denture adhesive powder over the gum sides of the lower and upper denture pieces.

Agitate each piece in your hand to shake off excess adhesive.

Rinse your mouth thoroughly to wet its interior and remove any loose debris.

Gently press each denture piece into place.

Bite down for 3-5 seconds to secure the dentures in place.

Always thoroughly clean your dentures before applying adhesives to affix them in place. Proper adhesive application is especially important for denture wearers suffering from dry mouth.
Never use adhesives to force ill-fitting dentures in place. Take care not to spill denture paste over the dentures' edges.
