How to Make a Slide Show CD

Even as large HDTV screens become increasingly popular, there are still many advantages to using an HDTV projector, as discussed in Peter Svensson's Associated Press article "HDTV Projectors Take Over the Home." Projection screens are popular for their easy portability, capacity for projecting large images on many surfaces, and their versatile computer connectivity. Once you've got a projector, getting the most out of its imaging capabilities is easy with preinstalled Windows software and some general computer know-how. For business presentations, or just a simple family photo display, creating slideshow CDs is a great way to digitize your albums for use with your projector.

Instructions

    • 1

      Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW.

    • 2

Open up Nero CD burning software; many new computers come with Nero's burning software. If you do not have Nero, you can download a free trial from Nero.com. If you prefer using different software, feel free to do so, but realize that Steps 3 through 6 may vary slightly.

    • 3

Quit any "Wizard" or help prompts to pop up \to get to Nero's main interface.

    • 4

Click through the folders on the right-hand side of the screen until you locate your photographs. By default, most of your photos are typically saved in the "My Pictures" folder; you can get to this folder by clicking on your hard drive, then selecting "Users," then selecting your username, and finally opening "My Pictures."

    • 5

Drag and drop the picture files into the blank field on the left side of the screen labeled "Files Added to CD."

    • 6

Click "Start Burn" to begin burning the selected images to the blank CD.

    • 7

Play the CD images as a slideshow by inserting the CD into any computer hooked up to your projector. Click on the PC's "Start Menu" and open up "My Computer." Right click on the CD-ROM drive and click "Play in Windows Media Player." This will begin automatically cycling through the slideshow of images. By default, each picture will stay on the screen for about 4 seconds before switching to the next image; however, you can control this by clicking "pause" to keep images on screen longer or hitting the "next" button to skip the picture more quickly.
