There are several things to consider when wearing a shoulder holster. The most important thing is comfort. A shoulder holster is supposed to make carrying a gun more convenient. This is not the case if the shoulder holster is not form-fitting. It is also important to consider the bulk of the shoulder holster and the clothes that will be worn with it. Shoulder holsters are designed to conceal the fact that the wearer is carrying a gun. If it can be easily seen, it defeats the purpose.

Select the proper shoulder holster for your body and the type of gun that it will hold. The shoulder holster that you choose should be as small and light as possible. The more straps and bulk there is, the less comfortable the shoulder holster will be and the harder it will be to hide. Small guns and shoulder holsters are recommended for people with smaller frames.

Adjust the shoulder holster across your back. Make it tight enough so that it does not slide around, but not so tight that it constricts the movement of your chest. You should be able to cross your arms comfortably in front of you without feeling the shoulder holster pulling your shoulders back.

Adjust the shoulder holster under your arms. The gun should be tucked as tightly under your arm pit as possible without pinching or feeling uncomfortable. The same goes for the other arm hole. Many shoulder holsters allow you to store extra magazines under the arm holes. You should be able to swing your arms around in a circular motion without being pinched by the arm holes.

Adjust the belt clip if your shoulder holster has one. Some shoulder holsters have an additional strap that connects to the belt to keep it from riding up. If yours has this, make sure you can lift both arms above your head without feeling the strap pull your shoulders down.

Find appropriate clothes that you can wear with your shoulder holster. It is easily hidden inside a loose-fitting coat or jacket. Sports coats are more difficult. They must be loose-fitting, or the gun and shoulder holster must be very slim. Larger men can sometimes get away with a shoulder holster hidden inside a suit jacket with a square cut.
