A domain name system (DNS) server controls communication between a computer and the Internet. The DNS server moderates how a computer accesses a domain name. Every computer communicates with a default DNS server based on their geographic region. Some individuals install open DNS servers, which are controlled by third-party companies. Occasionally, such individuals may wish to change their settings back to a non-open DNS server.
