How to Make an Elementary Writing Tablet
Elementary school students need many writing tablets over the course of their young education. Unlike wide- or college-ruled notebooks and paper, which are widely available, elementary writing tablets are harder to find. But you can make your own at home with just a few simple things around the house--and you will have an endless supply of elementary writing tablets for your child.
Things You'll Need
- 8½-by-11-inch piece of cardboard
- Stapler
- Writing paper template (see "Additional Resources")
- Computer with printer
- 8½-by-11-inch white printer paper

1
Go to the link in "Additional Resources," below, and either click on the "Print" button in the page on the upper left corner or right click on the template and select "Print."
-
2
Choose the number of pages you want to print in the print setup window that appears. If you want the tablet to have 10 pages, make 10 copies.
-
-
3
Click on "Print" to print the pages of your writing tablet.
-
4
Wait for about five minutes to allow the ink to dry on the pages (if you are using an ink jet printer). Skip this step if you use a laser printer.
-
5
Stack the pages all in the same direction, on top of one another.
-
6
Place the stack of pages on top of the cardboard, and place three staples along one of the 11-inch edges to attach the pages to the cardboard.

Tips & Warnings
The cardboard will act as a firm backing to allow your child to use the tablet anywhere. The writing tablet will be oriented horizontally so that your child will be able to fit more words per line. This is especially useful for very young children who start out with larger handwriting and require additional space to write.
