How to Make a Wildlife Pond in a Container
A wildlife pond in your garden is a great way to encourage wildlife of all kinds into the garden by providing much-need nature habitat. You can create a mini bio-system right in your own yard.

Container, Water
You can make a small pond out of virtually any watertight container. Fill the container with rainwater if you have it. You can use tap water, but let it stand for a few days to allow the cholorine can evaporate.

Add Plants, Rocks
You can submerged oxygenating plants, such as, hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) or Hair grass (Eleocharis acicularis). Also floating plants, such as, water hawthorn (Aponogeton distachyos) or Frog-bit (Hydrocharis morsus-ranae). Use around the edge of your pond to allow insect a way to get in and out of the water. Add rocks that rampup to the side to allow animals to to escape of they fall into the pond.

Dragonfly Eggs
Avoid adding fish to your wildlife pond. They create excessive waste in the water, and they eat tadpoles and insect eggs that are necessary for a healthy bio-system.

Water Level
Maintain your water level of your pond, and freshen the water if it become stagnant. Use rainwater or prepared water as before.
