Make your very own American flag pin to show your patriotic side. Making your own flag pin is not too difficult and can be rewarding. You can even show your finished product to your family and if they like it show them how you made it. This pin can be worn whenever you'd like or you can pin it to your items such as purse, inside of your car, or your keys. Keep reading this article to learn how to make a flag pin out of safety pins.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • tiny beads (38 red, 42 white, 20 blue)
  • 10 small safety pins
  • 1 large safety pin (big enough to hold the 10 safety pins)
  1. Step 1
the first 4 safety pins should look like this

    I SEE STARTS:

To start to make your American flag pin you will need to get 4 small safety pins. To each of these safety pins you will add the beads in the pattern: 5 blue, 1 white, 1 red, 1 white, 1 red, 1 white. Be careful to not poke yourself with the safety pin. These first 4 beads are the ones that have the blue for the stars in the American flag pin.

  2. Step 2
the next 6 safety pins should look lke this

    MAKE THE STRIPES:

Now get the remainder 6 small safety pins. These will have the red and white stripe pattern for the American flag pin. So each safety pin will have 5 red and 5 white beads but alternate the color. You will add red first, then white, then red, and continue alternating between the red and white until the 5 red and 5 white beads are in each safety pin.

  3. Step 3
add red and white stripe safety pins first

    THE AMERICAN FLAG IS FORMING:

Now take your red and white safety pins only and start inserting them in the large safety pin through the hole at the end of the small safety pin. The large safety pin will hold all 10 safety pins. Start inserting one small finished safety pin first with the beads facing outwards. Insert the safety pin all the way around the twisted end so you can get it on the other side. This way the safety pins will not fall out whenever you open the large safety pin. Be very careful not to poke yourself.

  4. Step 4

    ADD THE BLUE STARS:

Once you have added all of the red and white flag stripes, then add the 4 safety pins with the blue to add the stars. Again, when you add them to the large safety pins insert them through the tiny hole and with the beads facing outwards.

    THE AMERICAN FLAG PIN:

Once you have inserted the last safety pin you can pin it wherever you'd like. If you want to carry it with you all the time, add it to your keys or your purse.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be festive for the 4th of July of any other patriotic holiday.
  • Be very careful because you can easily poke your fingers when working with safety pins.
  • Keep these items out of children's reach.
