Thousands of people are injured by swimming pool chemicals each year. While chlorine and other swimming pool chemicals are necessary to keep our swimming water safe, mishandling of these chemicals can cause serious injury.

Most injuries come from inhaling swimming pool chemicals or from swimming pool chemical spills.

WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WHEN HANDLING SWIMMING POOL CHEMICALS

Wear long sleeves, goggles and a face mask to prevent inhaling pool chemical dust or splashing liquid on your body or in your eyes. Pool chemicals can burn. Inhaling chlorine can result in damage to your lungs.

  2. Step 2

    DO NOT MIX CHEMICALS

Do not mix swimming pool chemicals prior to putting them in the swimming pool. Mixing swimming pool chemicals with anything can create a chemical reaction that can result in harmful gases or fumes.

  3. Step 3

GIVE CAREFUL ATTENTION TO SWIMMING POOL CHEMICALS STORAGE

Because of their caustic nature, swimming pool chemicals should be stored in a well-maintained area, away from other chemicals that may interact with the pool chemicals if there is any spillage or leakage.

  4. Step 4

    CLEAN YOUR POOOL REGULARLY

Keep your swimming pool properly maintained and clean, instead of relying on chemicals to do all the work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not clean up spills by pouring on other chemicals. Flush with water only.
  • Do not smoke around swimming pool chemicals.
  • Keep pool chemicals locked up, to avoid accidental.
