Our knees are the largest joint in our body, and are at a higher risk of injury than any other joint. It's a weight-bearing joint that straightens, bends, twists and rotates. Combined with a daily running routine, all this motion increases your risk of developing runner's knee, known in the medical world as patellofemoral pain syndrome (PPFS). This is pain in and around the knee cap (patella). For runners, it is most often caused by tight hamstrings and calves. Fortunately, there are several preventative measures that can be taken to protect our knees.
