Things You'll Need:
- Water
- Container or bucket
- Time to examine roots
-
Step 1
Unpack the bare roots plants as soon as you receive your shipment.
-
Step 2
Check the roots for gray mold on the surface of the roots. If the mold coverage is light, then you can clean the mold off. However if the mold has covered the roots and the root feels soft, the plant is dead. Also, check for broken roots. Cut off the root at the bend. The plant should be fine.
-
Step 3
Fill a container with room temperature water. Soak the bare roots in the water for two hours. The dehydrated bare roots will take in the water and the roots will plump. Do this prior to planting.
-
Step 4
Plant the bare root directly after water soak.
-
Step 5
If you are unable to plant the bare roots on the same day that you receive them, then skip step three and four. After you check the roots, you would return the root to their bag with peat moss. Place them in your refrigerator, the crisper section. Plant the bare roots as soon as you can. Do not leave in crisper over a week.
