Lint and Dirt can be frustrating when you are trying your best to keep your sculpt clean. Follow these steps to keep your fairy's dirt and lint levels low.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your work in progress
  • Oven
  • Sculpting Tools
  • Old scrap clay
  • Detail tool
  1. Step 1

If your work space for sculpting is in a carpeted area you may want to put down a plastic mat down on the floor before sculpting to keep carpet lint from being distributed to your doll. If a mat is not in your budget consider moving your work to an area with hardwood floors. If you don't have hardwood floors and have only carpet it's still possible to keep carpet fibers low by not vacuuming the room at least a day before you start working and keep fans off while you are working it only spreads the lint around.

  2. Step 2

Wear light colored clothes, if you wear something dark you will notice lint the same color as your clothing getting in the clay, this is your cue to change into something white or light colored.

  3. Step 3

Wash your hands and try to let them air dry to avoid contact with towel fibers, or wipe them on a white or light colored towel.

  4. Step 4

Take a scarp ball of clay and roll it around all over your hands once you settle down to sculpt. Squish it between your fingers and roll it all over your whole hand, this picks up lint and dirt that regular cleaning doesn't get. Also dig your fingernails into it to get the lint and dirt around your nails before touching your good clay.

  5. Step 5

Remove all jewelry. You may not know it but your rings are caked with dirt and it's the kind of dirt that keeps on giving! You can run the clay over it multiple times and your clay will STILL get dirty. Also remove watches and bracelets.

  6. Step 6

You may not notice but most tools with painted handles flake and leave specks in your clay, any tool or paint brush with a wooden painted handle needs to be covered in clay, baking is optional. I cover and leave the clay unbaked to catch any other specks that may get on my hands during sculpting.

  7. Step 7

Make sure your oven and baking dish are clean.

  8. Step 8

If you do happen to get some stray lint on your doll use a detailing tool to get the lint off while the clay is still unbaked.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always bake in a well ventilated area.
