1
Choose a Backyardigans adventure to theme the birthday party around. Some common adventures include high tea, spy adventure, surf's up and pirate adventure. If possible, buy such party supplies as plates, napkins, cups and table cloths that carry out the theme of the adventure.
-
2
Choose food and drinks that your child enjoys and will be fun and nutritious for the kids. This includes juice and milk served in Backyardigan cups, snacks like cheese and crackers, peanut butter and apple slices and sandwiches for lunch. For the birthday cake, have a local bakery make one according to your theme or use a Backyardigans cake pan, such as a Pablo pan that you decorate yourself.

3
Decorate for the party with Backyardigan balloons, posters or banners, colorful streamers and a pinata made with your child's favorite character from the show. You may also choose decorations fitting the adventure such as ocean-themed decor for a surf's up adventure.
-
4
Choose invitations fitting your adventure and theme, fill out the appropriate information and send them out at least a month before the party. You can also create invitations yourself by attaching Backyardigan pictures to card stock and writing the pertinent information on the card.
-
5
Put together party favors that coordinate with the Backyardigan adventure theme you are going with. For a Western adventure, you may fill party favor bags with sheriff badges and other Western-style toys. For a pirate adventure, fill small "treasure chests" with chocolate coins wrapped in gold wrappers and eye patches. And you can always have some Backyardigans music playing.
-
6
Plan a variety of games and activities for the birthday party. Print out Backyardigan coloring pages and plan crafts like writing the kid's names on t-shirts. Activities may also be theme-related like filling a kiddie pool with sand and beach toys for smaller children at a surf's up adventure to play in or planning a treasure hunt for a spy adventure party.

Tips & Warnings
Check your local party supply store for "party boxes" which include many of the supplies, decorations and party favors you need for your adventure.
Be careful when choosing party favors for a toddler or preschool-aged birthday party, as small pieces are choking hazards.
