Inexpensive, brown paper jewelry boxes are available at craft stores and make good storage or gift boxes. Their only drawback is they are plain. You can decorate these jewelry boxes to make them more eye pleasing to give and to display. You can use nearly anything to decorate the boxes, so walk through your local craft store to look for inspiration. There are also larger paper boxes available so you could make an attractive, multi-sized display for your dressing table.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brown kraft paper boxes
  • Ribbon or lace
  • Scissors
  • Rhinestones
  • Beads
  • Paint
  • 1 inch sponge brush
  • Hot glue
  • Acrylic glue
  1. Step 1

Paint the box with the brush using short strokes. Make sure to remove the lid first, then paint it and the box separately so that they don't become stuck closed. Apply a thin coat so that the brown paper shows through and adds an aged patina to the paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

  2. Step 2

Cut a length of ribbon or lace with your scissors that is long enough to wrap around the rim of the lid. Use hot glue to hold it in place.

  3. Step 3

Lay out your rhinestones and beads on the top of the lid in a way that you find pleasing. Glue them in place with acrylic glue by putting a drop of glue slightly smaller than the rhinestone on the box and push the rhinestone into it until the glue just emerges from under the edge.

  4. Step 4

Cut a length of ribbon or lace that is long enough to wrap around the edge at the bottom of the box. Hot glue this in place.

  5. Step 5

Add more beads and rhinestones to the outside of the box with the acrylic glue. Place them in a way that will complement the lid.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also use small shells, charms or polished stones to decorate your box. Make a set of nesting jewelry boxes by purchasing and decorating three boxes in varying sizes.
  • Use caution when using hot glue.
