A draw is a golf shot that travels in a right to left direction for right handed golfers. For left handed golfers the ball would travel left to right. Hitting a draw requires the golfer to hit the inside portion of the golf ball with a slightly closed club face in order to put the correct side spin on the ball. The explanation below will be for right handed people hitting a driver, so please switch the information if you are left handed.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

When setting up the ball, aim in the direction you would like the ball to start and align your clubface at the target. This will close the clubface and help put the correct spin on the ball.

  2. Step 2

Take the club back on a straight line from the ball while keeping the clubface pointed at the ball to keep your hands from rolling over and opening the clubface. Opening the clubface as you take the club back will result in a slice.

  3. Step 3

At the top of your swing, your body weight should be on your right leg and your left wrist should be straight. Turning your weight to your right side will promote power, and swing speed while keeping the left wrist flat will keep the clubface closed and in a good position at the top of the swing.

  4. Step 4

Shift your weight onto your left side and swing the club back down to the ball in a smooth and fluent motion so that your upper body is following your lower body. Swinging with the lower body first will bring the club down on an inside path making sure that the inside portion of the golf ball is hit.

  5. Step 5

Swing to a full finish and watch as the golf ball starts out to the right of your target and gently draws back towards the middle of the fairway.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the left wrist flat during the entire swing.
  • Stretch before performing this activity. If you feel any pain, stop and see a doctor.
