Things You'll Need:
- Rubber spatula
- Large towel
- Small kitchen towel
- Mild detergent
- Vinegar
- Soft sponge or dish cloth
- Baking soda
- Paper towels or rubber jar rings
-
Step 1
Wash china as soon as possible. Do not allow food to dry on the plates, particularly acidic foods which can stain fine china. Use a rubber spatula to scrape plates, since silverware can leave scratches.
-
Step 2
Be sure to use mild detergent.Line your sink with a small towel to prevent the china from hitting the bottom of the sink. Lay out a large towel on a table or counter to place the china on once it has been washed. Remove all jewelry which may scratch or chip the china. Use a mild detergent such as Ivory or Dove, and add 2 tbsp. of vinegar to the water. Move the tap to the side after the sink is full to avoid hitting it with china. Use warm water, not hot.
-
Step 3
Wash only one item at a time. Multiple items in the sink can scrape against each other. Use a sponge or soft dish cloth to wash each item carefully. Do not use an abrasive sponge. Wash each dish with circular strokes. Avoid excess pressure or scrubbing back and forth. For stubborn stains, sprinkle on a little baking soda with a few extra drops of detergent.
-
Step 4
Rinse each dish with the same temperature water. A change in temperature can cause the china to crack. Do not stack dishes on top of each other while they are drying. Lay them out individually on the large towel and hand-dry to prevent water spots.
