How to Apply Feather Boas to a Tote Bag
Tote bags are a popular accessory. They're not only useful for carrying various items, but they can also be a fun fashion statement. By adding colorful embellishments, they can be made into bags that show your individual style and personality. Feather boas are one fun embellishment that can add zip to any tote bag.

1
Lay the tote bag flat on a work surface. Plan the desired placement of the feather boas. A line of boas look great along the top or bottom edges of the tote, or in a zigzag pattern in the center area of the bag. If you choose the zigzag option, mark the desired placement of the feather boa with the fabric pen.

2
Thread the needle with an 18-inch doubled thread that matches the feather boa you will be applying. Tie a simple overhand knot in the end of the threads. Place the feather boa onto the tote bag in the desired spot on the tote bag.

3
Insert the needle upward from the underside of the bag so that it appears at one end of the feather boa. Pull the needle and thread all the way through so that the knot stops the thread. Insert the needle back down into the tote bag fabric on the other side of that same end. This stitch will loop over the end and attach it to the bag.

4
Insert the needle back up from the underside of the tote bag approximately 2 inches away from the last stitch. Pull the needle and thread all the way through and insert the needle back down into the tote bag fabric on the other side of the feather boa to make another loop over the boa.
-
5
Repeat Step 4 along the entire length of the boa to attach it securely to the tote bag. If you change boa color, change thread color as well: Tie a knot in the thread, snip it and thread the needle with a different color to match the new boa. Also tie the thread in a knot and snip it if you will be moving to a different part of the tote bag. Do not extend the thread between large areas of the underside of the tote bag.
