How to Design a Dirt Bike Helmet

Dirt bike riders often have a streak of originality. Perhaps it is the danger of the sport, the thrill of the stunts or the rebellious noise of the bike, but dirt bike riders seem to follow the beat of their own drummer. This applies to the designs and outfits they wear, as well. Create custom designs on your dirt bike helmet to add an extra edge of originality to your gear.

1. 

   Draw the template for the dirt bike helmet. Create the basic shape with a reverse "C" shape. Add a triangle to the upper left hand corner of the helmet. Add a larger reverse "C" shape to create the back of the handle.

2. 

   Color the helmet black and the visor gray using art markers. Add a line around the eye hole that is made of gray.

3. 

   Let the ink dry and use colored pencils to create the outline of flames on the helmet. Use an orange colored pencil and draw sideways curved triangular shapes. The ends of the flames should be on the right side of the helmet. Vary the shape of the flames; draw some that curl up to the right, and others that continue horizontally across the helmet.

4. 

   Add red to the flames to create realistic shading. Start the red colored pencil at the right end of the flame and bear down on the pencil with a fair amount of pressure. Ease up on the pressure as you continue to the left to make the red color fade slightly.

5. 

   Add highlights to the right end of the flames using a yellow colored pencil. Start at the tip of the flame and continue the line of yellow around the outside edges of the right end of the flames. Add a tiny stroke of white in the middle of the yellow to create a bright highlight.

Tips & Warnings

• You can create flames out of shades of blue or green using the same method of highlighting as the red/orange flames.

• Let the marker dry before using colored pencil on the helmet.
