How to Do Stain Glass Photography
Stained glass windows are beautiful works of art worth capturing on film. But just how does one go about taking a picture of a window? It can be confusing to figure out the best lighting conditions, and how to set up your camera to avoid glare or distortion of the window's colors. How to Do Stain Glass Photography
-
1
Take pictures on a day that is cloudy but still offers mild sunlight. Direct sunlight will create poor pictures, but indirect light will cause the glass to look beautiful in your photographs.
-
2
Take pictures of the main subject, or subjects, in the window if the window is too large to capture in one shot. Focus on the important details to add interest to your photographs.

3
Underexpose your pictures so that all the different colors will show up properly. If you are using an auto-focus, aim it at a face in a window. This will normally be the lightest part of the window.
-
4
Avoid using flash. It will reflect off the glass and distort the color. Wait for a day with enough indirect sunlight to make the flash unnecessary.
-
5
Use a tripod. This will create better photos due to the longer exposure times. It also will eliminate blurring in your photos.
