How to Kill Mold in Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is the green sprouting grass of the common wheat plant. Wheatgrass provides nutrition in the form of amino acids, minerals, chlorophyll, vitamins and enzymes necessary for optimum health. The most commonly-consumed form of wheatgrass is the juice. When growing your own wheatgrass for juicing at home, you might sometimes notice a fuzzy blue growth on the base of the wheatgrass shoots. Although this mold is not harmful to humans, it is unattractive and unappetizing to look at. Using a common household product, you can learn how to kill mold in wheatgrass, without compromising its health benefits.

Things You'll Need

• White vinegar (5% acidity)
• Spray bottle

Instructions

1. Rinse wheatgrass shoots as best as you can. This will remove all of the loose bits of mold that have accumulated on the shoots.

2. Allow the shoots to dry in in a sunny window for 24 hours. This will allow the water to soak in or evaporate, so it will not dilute the treatment.

3. Pour undiluted vinegar into the spray bottle.

4. Spritz the wheatgrass with the white vinegar, thoroughly saturating the shoots and mold. Do not rinse the vinegar off the plant. Allow to air dry.

5. Repeat as needed, every 48 hours, until the mold is completely eradicated.
