Mirrors are essential tools in the house as well as decorative pieces. A mirror door can add a new dimension to a home as well as a tool for getting ready to go to work, school or out on the town. Installing a mirror door requires a few different considerations that a regular door won't require.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the door frame. Using a tape measure, record the exact width and height of the door. Be certain to know the depth or thickness of the door. If its a double-door setup, make note if both doors are identical or if one is off-set by the other. Measure where the door knob and its door jamb are located.

  2. Step 2

Remove the old door if necessary. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the hinge bolts and the hinge screws. This will free the present door from the frame. Be careful to have the door properly positioned or have someone ready to hold it as it comes loose.

  3. Step 3

Make sure the mirror door fits specifications. When preparing to install the mirror door, be certain that it meets the size specifications perfectly. Measure the location of the door jamb and door knob, and make sure it will match the respective locations of the receiving frame.

  4. Step 4

Leave protective wrapping on the mirrors while installing. Mirror doors can come with protective bubble wrapping and corrugated cardboard to ensure the safety of the glass. Leave this on while installing, as the door can shift weight and come into unexpected contact with walls, corners and other objects.

  5. Step 5

Install. Using the flat-head screwdriver, line the mirror door up with the hinges and screw either the door into the current hinges or new hinges which may or may not have come with the door. Install the top hinge and then the last hinge to align the door. Finish with the middle hinge's install. Test the door's opening and closing.
