Take Care of Unpaid Speeding Tickets

In most instances, you can settle unpaid speeding-ticket fines at the courthouse in the jurisdiction where the ticket was issued. If the ticket was issued in another state, you might be able to handle this by mail or phone. If you no longer have copies of the tickets, the clerk of the court can give you a written statement of your infractions and fines.

Instructions

    • 1

Compile all of your unpaid speeding tickets. If you have outstanding tickets in more than one state, you will not be able to take care of them in one lump payment. You will need to pay each jurisdiction directly.

    • 2

Determine whether there are any additional fines or outstanding warrants. Contact the court in each city or county where the speeding ticket was issued and tell the clerk that you have unpaid speeding tickets and would like to settle your fines. Ask the clerk if any other penalties have been imposed and confirm that the court has not issued any arrest warrants because of your outstanding fines.

    • 3

If you do not have copies of your tickets and need a written statement from the clerk of the court, bring a photo ID such as a driver's license to the court in the jurisdiction where the ticket was issued.

    • 4

Pay your fines with the court finance office. Each court establishes its own rules on how you can pay fines. Most courts accept personal check, money order, cash or credit card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Contact an attorney immediately if your unpaid speeding tickets have accrued additional monetary penalties, if the court has issued an arrest warrant for failure to pay, or if your unpaid tickets have resulted in suspension of your driver's license.
