Learning the secrets of creating the illusion of levitation takes the fascination away for the performer. But if it is done correctly, "levitation" can amaze and mystify friends, family and total strangers. There are a few different types of levitation, but the most common type is called zero-gravity, where both feet appear to be floating above the ground.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut out the inner sole of one of the shoes. If you are right-handed, cut from the left shoe, and vice versa. Be careful not to tear the rubber underneath, because you will need the rubber outside part attached to the bottom of the shoe.

  2. Step 2

Puncture a hole in the bottom of left shoe so your toes will poke out. Then cut a slit in the back, parallel with the sole of your foot. Puncture a small hole for the screw into the back of the other shoe and make a small slit where the toes are, perpendicular to your toes.

  3. Step 3

Cut a piece of sheet metal so it's the exact size of the shoe with a screw. Place the bottom of the shoe on the piece of sheet metal and draw the shape around it with a pencil. Use a metal-cutting saw to cut the shape. Attach the plate to the screw and position the end of the plate into the slit in the front of the shoe.

  4. Step 4

Push the metal slate out of the slit with your toes. Shuffle your feet so the plate swings out toward your other shoe. Make sure it catches the slit in the back of the left shoe so that it will stay in place. Move your feet slightly to wedge it in.

  5. Step 5

Align your feet and raise your right heel. Raise your left heel, which will be a simple process after raising your right heal off the ground using the sheet metal pieces. Place your left toes on the ground for balance. The hole in your left shoe will make it possible to balance on your toes, and will not disturb the shape of your shoe.

  6. Step 6

Balance yourself up off the ground using the holes in the sheet metal. It now looks like you are levitating.

  7. Step 7

Lower yourself back to the ground slowly, heels first.
