How to Heat Seal the Ends of Ribbons
In crafting projects that involve ribbons, the ribbons must be handled carefully to prevent fraying. A frayed ribbon in a finished crafting project is a frustrating thing. There are several methods to seal the ends of ribbon; however, heat sealing is the preferred method for the most professional-looking results. Cut the end of the ribbon in the shape desired. Often, ribbon is cut at a diagonal angle or, if preferred, the ribbon can be cut off at a straight edge.

Light the candle with the lighter and place it on a safe working surface.

Hold the ribbon with both hands at the end of the ribbon. Your hands should be firmly holding the ribbon tautly between your hands, close to the end of the ribbon to be sealed.

Pass the end of the ribbon quickly through the flame either from left to right or right to left. It is not necessary to pass the ribbon through the flame more than one time.

Allow the seared ribbon to cool to finish the ribbon sealing. Blow out the candle when finished sealing the ribbons.

Be very careful with the lighter and the candle. Never leave a candle unattended around pets or children.
