Find the Old and New Testament books page in your bible, this page is shown alphabetically in one of the front pages in your bible. Place a posted colored tab at the top of the page once you find it. Using a posted colored tab, will help you find this page much faster. This page helps you find the page of the bible books, but I have found even an easier way, looking up the number of the page is much harder to find, than looking up the number of the book.

You will need to separate the names of the books by drawing a line between the ones that start with the letter A, C, D, until you come to the letter Z, which is the last letter of the books of the bible. For example, A as in Acts and Amos, there are only two books with the letter A. 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles, Colossians, 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians. Place a line across between the Amos and 1 Chronicles so you can separate the books that start with each letter of the alphabets.

After you separate the set of the books with their own set, you will place a big A in the box with the books that start with the letter A, and a big C in the box with the books that start with the letter C. You will do this with all of the books of the bible, until you are finish with the letter Z.

Each of the books of the bible will have their own number. Go to the contents books of the bible that are listed also in the front page as they appear in the bible. For example, Genesis will be #1, Exodus will be #2, Leviticus will be #3, and so on, until you go to the last book, which is Revelations that is #57. Searching for the books with a number instead of the page number, will be much faster and much easier.

Now go back to the alphabetical page, and write down the # of the book. Acts will be #41, Amos will be #27, 1Chronicles and 2Chronicles, both will be #11, Colossians will be #47, and so on until you go to Zephaniah, the last book of the bible, which will be #33.

On each first page of the books, you will place a small piece of Magic Scotch Tape, the kind you can write on. Place the tape on the front of the page you selected, at the top or bottom, which ever you want to start with, fold it over the back of the page; write the number of the book. Do this on all of the books from the bible, all the way to the last book. If you preferred to use colored tabs, instead of using scotch tape, it's great, just make sure you have enough colored tabs for this project. This will take several hours to finish; you may want to spread the time you spend in this project for several days, if you don't want to spend many hours doing this in one day.

You will have your bible listed as numbers, instead of names from the bible. Now when you go to church, and the pastor announces the name of the bible, the chapter, and the verse, you will be able to search it in your bible much faster and easier.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have name tabs, you can always filled in the number over the name or on the side of the name, so you can find the book much faster. This way you won't need to take out the name tabs, and you will have both the name and the number.
