This project came about when the drain cup from my dish drying rack went missing. I noticed that the hole left was about the same size and shape as a half gallon jug of milk, and got to work.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Half Gallon jug of milk
  • Knife
  • Large Nail
  1. Step 1

Put the jug in the dish drain rack and make a mark just above the top of the drain rack. You want to make it this tall so it doesn't tip over.

  2. Step 2

Cut the half gallon milk jug off at the line. If the cut is rough, clean it up with some scissors you're not too worried about keeping sharp.

  3. Step 3

Scrub out the inside of the milk jug with soap. You're going to be draining clean silverware in this, so you want it nice and clean. This is a good time to get the labels off too.

  4. Step 4

Use a large nail to poke drain holes all over the bottom of the milk jug. The holes should be smaller than your silverware handles. Be careful doing this. Make some holes up the sides of the drainer as well to let air circulate around the silverware.

  5. Step 5

With this drain rack, this stays in place nicely. If yours doesn't, poke a couple holes near the top, and tie the silverware drainer to the dish rack with plastic coated twisty ties.
