Spell out your child's name or a favorite word!

Decorative letters are a creative way to personalize your child's room. Unfortunately you can end up spending quite a bit of money, especially if your child's name is long. By creating your own custom decorative letters, you can save a lot of money without sacrificing style and quality.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Foam Board
  • Fabri-Tac Glue
  • Fabric
  • Rick Rack
  • Wooden Letters
  • Craft Paint
  • Ribbon
  • X-acto Knife
  • Metal Ruler or Straight Edge
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Cut your foam board into 7x7" squares for each letter using the X-acto knife and the straight edge.

  2. Step 2

Cut 9x9" squares of fabric for each letter. Wrap the fabric tightly around the foam board squares and glue the edges to the back using Fabri-Tac.

  3. Step 3

Glue the rick rack around the edge of each square using the Fabri-Tac.

  4. Step 4

Secure an eight inch piece of ribbon, folded over, onto the back of the square near the top. This will allow you to hang the letter on the wall. You can either glue the ribbon or staple it.

  5. Step 5

Paint the wooden letters the color of your choice, preferably a color that matches and stands out from the fabric. Allow to dry, then glue the painted letter to the square, centered.

  6. Step 6

Hang the letters on the wall to spell out your child's name or a favorite word.

Tips & Warnings
  • Match the fabric to your child's room theme or bedding.
  • Try using different fabric for each letter.
  • Use putty to secure the letter to the wall in addition to the ribbon for added durability.
