Nothing smells better than roast turkey straight from the oven, but the question is how to cook that turkey in a bag. Why must the turkey be cooked in a bag? Because that is the best way to get a flavorful, brown to perfection, moist turkey. If you really want to wow your guests follow these easy steps to cooking a beautiful turkey for any occasion.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a fresh or frozen turkey to fit the needs of your family. Turkeys come in sizes ranging from 8 pounds to 25 pounds. You should have an idea of what size you need before you head to the store. Also purchase an oven roasting bag. Be sure you get the turkey size and it will hold just about whatever size turkey you purchase.

  2. Step 2

Once you have all your items at home you are ready to cook a turkey in a bag. You should always preheat the oven to 350 degrees. If your oven tends to cook faster lower the temperature by 25 degrees. If your oven tends to cook slower you may want to raise the temperature by 10 – 15 degrees.

  3. Step 3

Clean the turkey by taking everything out of the cavity. You may discard it all or save the giblets for giblet gravy. After the turkey is empty rinse the inside and outside thoroughly. If you plan to stuff your turkey, now is the time to do it.

  4. Step 4

Open the box of oven bags. Be careful not to lose the ties. Place a couple tablespoons of flour in the bag and shake well to coat the bag. Place bag in roasting pan and have someone hold it open while you insert the turkey. Use the tie to hold the bag shut. Cut about 5 half inch slits in the top of the bag to let the steam escape. Place the turkey in the oven and set the timer for the amount of time specified on the instruction sheet that came in the oven bag box.
