How to Make A Computer A Print Server

You may have found that when you upgraded to Windows Vista or bought a new computer, your printer may no longer work with Windows Vista. Maybe there is one printer in the house and everybody has their own laptop that they use instead of the computer. In the case of these two scenarios, and many others, a printer server is needed. A printer server is a computer on a network that is also connected to a printer. One of the purposes of this computer now is to do all the printing for the network. Nobody now has to physically want to use the one computer (with the printer) connected to the network. This article will show you "How To Setup A Print Server On Your Network"

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what type of network you wish to have (See How To Chose A Network).

    • 2

Make sure the computer connected to the printer has been marked as a shared printer. On the computer with the printer connected to it, click on the printer that you wish to use as the network computer and mark this printer as a shared printer.

    • 3

Make sure each remote computer on the network has the shared printer as their primary printer. This can be performed by going to the control panel. Select printers and then right click on the printer you wish to share (make your network printer), click on Sharing on the menu then follow the instructions.

Print now as you would normally do just that the local printer is the network computer instead.
