How to Compare Flatbed Scanners
You need to know how to compare flathead scanners for the features and performance, and to look at the different functions of the scanner. If you want just a scanner or an all-in-one scanner, you will have hundreds of comparisons to make. If you know a few things to look for in a scanner, you will be able to find the best one.

1
Compare the dots per inch (dpi). The dpi is the optical resolution of the scanned document or picture. Better scanners have 4,800x9,600 dpi and higher.
-
2
Check to see which operating systems the scanner is compatible with. Vista or newer Windows systems specifically require scanners be compatible.
-
-
3
Check the interface and system type the scanner will work with. The system type should be able to be used with a Mac if you have a Mac or PC if you are running a PC. The interface should be a high-speed USB for easy use.
-
4
Compare the speed of the document scanning. You want to get something that is fast. For instance, eight pages and four pictures per minute is fair, but some scanners are faster.
-
5
Compare the software functions. Can you scan, email and print? You want to be able to scan a document and send it out in an email or save it to your computer. If you have a need for a scanner, copy, print and fax machine, the multifunction machines may be what you need.
-
6
Compare the price of the scanners. You could spend over $100 on a flatbed scanner, but a multifunction flatbed scanner machine could be a little less with more functions.
