Instructions

    • 1

Remove one side of the horizontal window to use to mount the AC unit. The sliding part of the window is easier to remove because there will be screws that attach it to the track. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws, and pull the piece out of the frame.

    • 2

Mounting an AC unit is going to require a platform or some other type of support where it can sit. Measure the distance from the sill to the bottom of the window and then mark a piece of 2-by-4 board of the same length. Cut two pieces from the board using a circular saw. Secure the pieces to the sill using a drill and a couple of screws.

    • 3

Build a frame to support the AC unit in the window. Measure the diameter of the hole, and make an outline on a piece of plywood with a pencil. Use a skill saw to cut out a hole that the AC unit can slide into.

    • 4

Attach the plywood to the opening where the sliding section of the window was located. Use a drill and screws to secure the piece of plywood to the frame. Drill a pilot hole in the frame and the plywood so that they do not split when tightening the screws.

    • 5

Insert the AC unit into the opening that was cut out of the plywood. Make sure the AC unit is sitting on the platform, and then secure it to the plywood with a couple of screws.

Tips & Warnings

  • Measure the dimensions of the window to determine the size of the AC unit that can be used. An AC unit will work more efficiently when it is sitting on a flat surface.

  • If the sliding part of the window is forced out of the frame, it could get damaged.
