Things You'll Need:
- DC power terminals
- Pliers
- Drill
- Alligator clips
- Wire strippers
- Soldering gun
-
Step 1
Shut down your computer and unplug everything. Make sure all plugs and wires do not touch one another and that all ground wires are suspended.
-
Step 2
Locate the screws in the back of your laptop and remove them. Find the circuit board and remove it. The circuit board is the large board on your laptop that connects all the components with wires. It is the board that provides electrical power to your computer. Hold it a safe distance away and drill 1/8-inch holes in the side of the circuit board that faces outward on the computer. Insert the DC power terminals into the holes you just created.
-
Step 3
Locate your circuit board wires. The ones you should look for are colored red, yellow, green, black and orange. Strip the green wire with wire strippers and solder it to the black (ground) wire. This will tell your computer to remain "on" in sleep mode.
-
Step 4
Find the wires on the circuit board with the same major groups of colors and strip ends off all yellow, orange, red, etc., and solder them to their corresponding wires on the DC terminal. Crimp the wires. Then, clamp the wired connections together with alligator clips to hold them in place.
-
Step 5
Insert your connectors (alligator clips or tongue terminals) into the ends of the power terminals. Tighten them with the pliers and put your computer back together. Make sure the connections are tight because a bad connection could harm and possibly short your computer. Turn on your laptop to make sure everything is working properly.
