Cell Phone

Recycling your old cell phones not only saves energy, but keeps toxic waste from seeping in to our waterways and our land. These old cell phones can be refurbished and given to organizations such as women's shelters. There is a great need for this because many of these women are abused and need to be able to call the police or an ambulance in the case of an emergency.

Instructions

    • 1

Erase all of the information from your cell phone that you deem personal. Don't leave your friends' phone numbers in there, either. You don't want someone else to have access to your private information, because you don't know how they will use it.

    • 2

Call to cancel or deactivate the service you were currently using for that phone. If you don't, someone else may use it and run up a bill for which you are responsible.

    • 3

Place your cell phone in a padded envelope and mail it to: Call To Protect, 2555 Bishop Circle West, Dexter, MI 48130. This organization takes the cell phones and makes sure that they are given to women's shelters.

    • 4

Stop by the nearest donation location (see resources) if you don't want to pay for the postage to mail the old cell phone.

    • 5

Email foundation@ctia.org if you have any questions about your donation and which shelters will receive the recycled cell phones.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you request a receipt for what the cell phone is worth. You can use it on your taxes.
