How to Prevent Fleas Without Chemicals

Fleas are a pesky bother, we all know that! And, most of us will do whatever it takes to get rid of fleas and keep them from coming back. But many of the flea treatments we get from our veternarian's office and pet store's contain harsh chemicals. There are ways to prevent fleas, however, without resorting to such harsh treatments.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lavender
  • Baby Oil
  • Cedar Shavings
  • Minced Garlic
  1. Step 1

Start by adding some minced garlic to your dog's food everyday. The garlic has many health benefits, but will also help keep fleas away. The fleas do not like to bite dogs that taste garlicky!

  2. Step 2

Bathe your dog in lavendar scented dog shampoo. If you cannot find any, try adding a few drops of lavendar oil to your dog's shampoo. Lavendar also helps keeps fleas at bay.

  3. Step 3

If you dog lives outside, try bedding them down in cedar shavings. Cedar shavings naturally repel fleas. Cedar smells nice, and is easy to clean up as well.

  4. Step 4

Rub the dog down twice a month with baby oil. Try to leave it on as long as possible, without the dog trying to lick it off. Baby oil is also another flea preventative, and will kill any existing fleas your pet may have.
