Instructions

    • 1

Launch Keynote '09 by clicking on its icon in the dock or go to iWork in the Applications folder.

    • 2

Create a new presentation by selecting a theme from the Theme Chooser and click the "Choose" button.

    • 3

Click the "New" button on the top left to add a new slide.

    • 4

Click the "Title-Top" master from the "Masters" item at the top menu.

    • 5

Create a new chart on the Keynote slide in your presentation by clicking on the "Charts" item at the top menu.

    • 6

Select the Pie Chart. There are two pie charts: a 2D and a 3D option. Select the 3D version, which is the one on the right.

    • 7

Focus on the table with all of the data in it. It should be floating on top of all the windows. To focus on the window, just click inside it.

    • 8

Change "Region 1" to what makes sense for the pie chart you're creating by clicking in the cell and replacing the text. For this chart we're simulating a visual to describe how much of our monthly budget is going to which expenses, so this field is labeled "Cost for Month."

    • 9

Change the top fields labeled 2007 to 2012 to something more meaningful for your pie chart. Since this is a budget pie chart, these header fields are labeled for each expense area we're tracking (Food, Entertainment, Rent, Clothing, Medical, Utilities). Keynote will update the Pie Chart key automatically as you enter in the new values.

    • 10

Edit the fields that contain the numbers to make sense for your pie chart. Since this pie chart is based on the total amount spent in one month for each category, enter in a dollar amount without the dollar sign. The pie chart will automatically adjust based on your new figures.
