Prevent Identity Theft For Life

There are hundreds of identity thefts every year. Thieves are becoming smarter and more creative just to get a few hundred or thousands of dollars. However, there are many ways you can stop identity theft from happening to you. Read on to see how you can prevent identity theft and keeping your money secure.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Instead of signing your name on your credit card you should write "see id." This will make sure that people have to check for a picture and signature ID for your credit card.

  2. Step 2

Try not to have more than you need when going out. What is the use for extra credit cards, extra blank checks, a passport and several ID's. Only bring what is necessary for that day.

  3. Step 3

You should never carry your SSN (Social Security Number) with you. If someone gets a hold of your SSN number it will be hard to not take away your identity.

  4. Step 4

Don't use your SSN for anything. That means passwords, on checks or anything else.

  5. Step 5

Have good and long passwords for everything (especially for any online bank accounts). You shouldn't use your initials, your name, or anything that can be easily discovered (birthday, place of birth, street you live on, wife's name, kids name, etc,.). Keep it in a safe place or just remember it.

  6. Step 6

Never respond to any e-mail that asks for personal information or for any pre-approved credit card offers online. No matter how good an idea you think it easy it just becomes easier and easier to get information.

  7. Step 7

Pay close attention to all of your bank statements and credit reports.
