This article explains the necessary ingredients and process for making the ink used when creating henna tattoos. It also explains how to then apply and remove the ink, leaving a henna tattoo in its place.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cold cream
  • corn starch
  • food coloring
  • water
  • measuring spoon
  1. Step 1

There is a stage in each child's life where tattoos become all the rage. One of the easiest ways to accommodate this desire is to make and apply home-made henna tattoos. First you will need to gather 1 tablespoon of cold cream, 1 1/2 teaspoons of corn starch, 1/2 teaspoon of water, and food coloring. Place all ingredients in a zip lock bag, seal, and squeeze until all ingredients are adequately mixed. There should be no lumps.

  2. Step 2

Cut a very small hole in one corner of the zip lock bag. This will be where you squeeze the "ink" out to apply the tattoo. Simply draw whatever design is desired directly onto the skin. You can use a small paintbrush if necessary. Then you must let the "ink" completely dry. The thicker you apply the ink the longer it will take to dry.

  3. Step 3

Once it is dry, pick off the remaining "ink". What remains should be a tattoo stained onto the skin. This will usually last a couple of days, even in water. If you need to remove it sooner you can use rubbing alcohol or ironically, cold cream.

Tips & Warnings
  • The darker color food coloring you use the better. Lighter colors don't stain the skin as nicely.
  • Food coloring will stain your clothing.

on 6/19/2009 It would be better if you got an FDA approved body paint for kids.

Also, 100% natural henna mixed with nothing but lemon juice, sugar and tea tree oil should be safe for kids as young as 6.

Or if you don't want to mess with all that, you could just use a brown washable marker.
