Step 1
How to keep your puppy from chewing....
Dogs like to chew on things when they get bored, and puppies especially get bored easy. To fix this, provide your puppy with lots and lots of chew toys so that theres always something around for him to chew. Rotate toys out frequently so they do not get bored.Get your puppy some bones to chew on. Its a great treat and it gives him hours of chewing.
Take him outside for exercise. If your puppy is cooped up inside all day he isnt getting enough exercise. Take him outside and run him around a bit. This wears him out a little bit. He will be less likely to chew on things inside if he is tired out.
If you do see your puppy chewing on something he isnt supposed to take it away and give him a chew toy. If possible keep all other stuff out of puppys reach. -
Step 2
If your puppy is biting...
Yell ouch or yelp in pain and then walk away. Do not come back and play with him until he settles down. He thinks he is playing but to you he is biting. He will eventually realize that when he bites you,you dont want to be around him anymore. -
Step 3
teach your puppy not to jump...
If he is jumping then you need to softly push him off you and walk away. Let him calm down before you give him attention. Never call him on you. Do not get excited when coming home. Make him sit and then give him attention. -
Step 4
puppy needs to stop digging...
If a dog is bred to dig then its hard to get them to stop this. you need to pull him away from the spot he is digging and get him interested in toys or something else. Neutering also settles him down. -
Step 5
keep him from going to the bathroom inside...
Take him out frequently, especially with a small puppy. when you see him going outside say his name and tell him to go potty. This gets him to recongnize the word potty with the action. When he is done tell him how good he did. Call him a good boy. Use his name.
If you catch him going potty inside tell him no. Do not hit him. Take him outside as fast as you can. Some dogs react better if you take the pile outside and put it in a spot you want him to go potty in. Clean up the mess completely. If he smells it later he will try to go in that same spot again. -
Step 6
get your puppy to stop whining...
When your puppy is whining you must ignore him. This is extremely hard I know, especially when its the middle of the night and you have to get up early in the morning. If you pay attention to him while he is whining he will know for later that is a sure way of getting your attention.
Be sure to give him love when he is not whining. Same thing goes for a dog that is barking. You need to ignore him.If you yell at him while he is barking he will think you are playing with him and will keep barking.
If this persists for too long then you can try spraying him with water through a spray bottle and say quiet in a normal voice. Do not yell at the dog. If he gets mean when you do this then do not do it again. My puppy acts very well towards a spray bottle. -
Step 7
The most important thing you can do for your puppy is give him lots of love and attention. Remember to avoid giving him attention when he is doing something wrong.
