Make a ladder-style trellis of almost any size out of bamboo stems. Whether you purchase, grow, or harvest the canes, you'll find a variety of sizes and a sturdy support system perfect for a range of climbing plants. Ladder-style trellises provide plenty of space for single vines that need room to spread large leaves and add can even add a little extra support to plants which need temporarily propped up.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bamboo stalks
  • wire or cord glue
  1. Step 1

Cut the stalks or pre-purchase your cane in the size and weight you want, depending upon how sturdy you want your trellis and the size and weight of your vine.

  2. Step 2

Decide what size you want your ladder trellis -- whether a large frame or a small pot-sized ladder -- and measure, cut, and lay your cane accordingly. Rearrange as necessary to give your structure the best support and size.

  3. Step 3

Let your stems cross each other to form a grid or ladder design and fasten them with wire or gardening tape.

  4. Step 4

Use an all-purpose or outdoor glue to add extra sturdiness to your frame -- then stake in the pot or ground where your vine is planted.

Tips & Warnings
  • For miniature vines or indoor pots, use lightweight cane or consider substituting wooden dowels to achieve the same effect, only smaller and more manageable indoors.
